The metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) is a type of field-effect transistor with an insulated gate, manufactured through the controlled oxidation of a semiconductor, usually silicon. The voltage at the gate determines the electrical conductivity of the component; this ability to change conductivity as a function of voltage can be used to amplify or switch electronic signals.
